Remainders Creative Reuse embodies the values, policies, and practices that ensure that all people—including but not limited to those who have been historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography, citizenship status, or religion—are represented in the development of our cultural policy. Remainders is committed to supporting all persons through the development of accessible venues for nurturing expression.

Statement of Acknowledgement: All persons deserve equal access to cultivating a vibrant creative life, which in turn creates a healthy and thriving society. Systems of power exist in Los Angeles County that grant privilege unequally such that inequity and injustice result. These inequities can be addressed and challenged through creating culturally inclusive systems of change. Change occurs through acknowledging and challenging our inequities and working in partnership. The viability of the arts sector in Los Angeles is dependent upon long term cultural equity and inclusion measures and the partnerships that are created through these measures.

Plan: Create culturally conscious policies, procedures and programming throughout our organization. Acknowledge and remove any inequities within our policies, systems, programs, and services. Expand more diverse leadership within our board and staff. Create programs and policies that reflect Los Angeles County’s diverse cultural landscape. Maintain a culturally inclusive community space where all are welcome and encouraged to manifest their creativity.

Land Acknowledgement: We acknowledge that Remainders Creative Reuse operates on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded homelands of Indigenous peoples who have lived on and cared for this land for thousands of years. The land on which our creative reuse store and community space resides — in what is now Pasadena, California — is part of the territory of the Gabrieleno/Tongva and Kizh peoples and their ancestors, including the historic Hahamog’na community who stewarded these lands long before the arrival of settlers.

We honor and pay respect to the elders past, present, and emerging and recognize that Indigenous peoples continue to live, care for, and contribute to these lands and waters. We express our gratitude for the opportunity to gather, create, work, and learn here, and we commit to ongoing education, meaningful relationships, and actions that support truth, justice, and equity for Native communities. As an organization dedicated to creativity, sustainability, and community care, we strive to reflect these values in how we show up, collaborate, and contribute to healing and reconciliation.
